Cafe 407

One of my life's joys is making drinks for my friends when they're over at my place. That + my love for music creates Cafe 407. It's a biannual (well only 2 have happened so far) cafe that I host wherever I happen to be living.

So far the event's been a 4-ish hour event where people just pop in and out while the baristas and I serve drinks, but maybe midway through I have a bunch of performances. It's all very performative music like Laufey, Keshi, Clairo, and then Ty and I force everyone to listen to some jazz tunes (Spain for example, also he's graduated so I need to find someone else to play jazz with).

People are usually most active in the cafe right before and after the music though we're able to serve drinks during the performatives because of my baristas.

So far we've mainly been serving pour over coffee, matcha, and jasmine milk tea as those are relatively easy to train (or happen to have friends who are proficient). Addition to those staples, I also like to have some specialty drinks like jasmine matcha cloud, or matcha affogato to spice things up.

First event was a donation based system and the second one was pay-by-the-drink system (though subsidized). I lost money both ways but it was still worth it in my eye seeing that all my friends and I got together and had a fun time.

Future work: The next semester I host it I do have the assistance of the GT Coffee Club so espresso based drinks will be available at the next one so I'm really excited for that. That mainly means I can show off the limited latte art I can do, but it also means I can have a more coffee-centric cafe as opposed to matcha which is both more time/money expensive. Pour over is good but only for a certain crowd (and it also takes long) so having espresso based drinks would be good for Cafe 407.
